Faced with the court's scrutiny over the adequacy of actions being taken to check air pollution in Delhi NCR, the Centre on Wednesday listed out steps taken against the various sources of pollution.

"The AQI today indicates 'very poor' category. Local surface winds are relatively low for the next 3 days that reduces the dispersion of pollutants leading to the deterioration of air quality but air quality is likely to be in the higher end of the 'very poor' category for the next two days," SAFAR said in a bulletin.

Air pollution level in Delhi remained in the ‘very poor’ category on Sunday morning even as the impact of stubble burning on the city’s air quality came down considerably due to reduction in farm fires in neighbouring states, according to the Ministry of Earth Science's air quality monitor, System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting And Research (SAFAR).At 6 am today, the city’s overall Air Quality Index (AQI) clocked at 347, with the concentrations of the particulate matter (PM) with a diameter of 10 and 2.5 microns standing at 301 (‘poor’ category) and 181 (‘very poor’ category) respectively, as per SAFAR.

Four fatalities have so far been reported in the city this month -- two on November 12 and one each on November 14 and November 15. Delhi reported four COVID-19 deaths in October and five in September.

The Centre on Wednesday told the Supreme Court that the commission on air pollution has come out with strict measures to curb pollution in the Delhi-NCR including the complete closure of all public and private educational institutions, ban on entry of trucks barring few exceptions, and closure of six thermal power plants in the 300 km radius of the national capital.

The case pertains to the realty firm constructing two 40-storey towers illegally in its Emerald Court housing project premises with over 900 flats and 21 shops in the towers.
